Needs better proof reading

This is my second purchase of the STANDARD CATALOG OF MILITARY FIREARMS, as I previously purchased the 6th edition. The 7th edition's coverage of the M1 Garand again mentions CMP rifles (p. 462), but leaves out the $ values by condition. CMP is an important category and I for one would like to know the values. Also in the Webley revolver coverage (p. 210), the photo associated with the Mark VI continues the error seen in the 6th edition. The Mark VI has a squared off butt (and is mentioned), but the photo shows the birds head butt of an earlier MK. Also regarding the Webley, there is no mention of the * or ** naval expedients produced during WWI.

I've also noted similar errors in the larger STANDARD CATALOG OF FIREARMS that I have purchased. In the future and while copies are available at our library, I'll not be purchasing either of these Krause Publications; at least until the attention for detail is improved.

Very good reference book.

This is the third edition of this book I have owned and find it indispensable to information on military firearms. It use as a value guide is on par to all others, but as with all others means very little in any particular sale. I didn't think this edition was a carefully put together as previous issues in that frequently information overlaps awkwardly between pages and in some cases improperly placed. It isn't difficult to figure it out but makes is awkward.

Firstenberg and Salas combine to write a useful guide for the innovative inventor intent on developing their wares for the Google Glass wearable device. Rather than focusing solely on the meat and potatoes of code and syntax, their intent is to give the reader a glimpse into the minds of the original designers of Glass as a platform. The bulk of the book is used to give the reader the best methods when conceptualizing Glass applications so that they can provide the user with a cohesive experience with Glass, its operating system and all other Glass apps.

It is a journey into the mindset of Google, the Glass development team and the vision that they have for Glass as a wearable device and development platform. A graceful integration of philosophy and personal experience

This is one of my favorite books of all time.
Vicki Hearne - animal trainer, poet, and philosopher - talks about her relationship with the working animals she trains. She presents her philosophies by illustrating them with stories of animals she has trained.
If you have deep respect for animal intelligence, this book will confirm and deepen your beliefs.
Training, she says, is the creation of a shared language. But language has many ambiguities. For example, trainers haven't a clue what the world smells like to a dog, for whom "scenting" is a primary sense. Yet humans and dogs can learn to work together across the gap of their differences by coming to share the vocabulary of trained scent work.
Animal training, says Hearne, is as challenging for the trainer as it is for the animal. Trainers must learn humility, and learn to communicate in new ways. For example, horses take in information through touch and are extremely sensitive to the motions of the rider. Once a trainer comes to understand this (and other things about horses), she or he can begin to understand the way a horse understands its world and its self.
Of course I don't do justice to the book by summarizing a few of its philosophical points! Hearne writes gracefully, and shows a great mastery of a variety of disciplines - psychology, philosophy, literature, animal training. Her anecdotes make the philosophy much easier to understand, and the philosophy makes the implications of the anecdotes much richer.

Re: the "near drowning" of the hole-digging dog, here's how Vicki describes it: "I put Salty's head in the Hole. She emerges quite quickly (she's a very strong, agile dog)." This is not waterboarding; it's getting the dog's attention. I would not try this method myself, as I am not a trainer. (Vicki warns us we "can't work a dog" from her writings.) Neither would I let this description turn me away from a wise, courageous and ultimately compassionate book about intraspecies communication.

As an ex-vet. tech., I've seen what happens when people and animals don't talk the same language: the animals suffer. When they inconvenience their "loving" owners enough, the animals die. Chapter 8, "The Sound of Kindness," should be required reading for all pet owners.

Other parts of this book soar and inspire with their deep respect for what the relationship between humans and animals should be. It is because of this that we must take responsibility for what we do to and with companion animals. As Henry Beston had it, "They are not bretheren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners in the splendor and travail of the earth."

An exquisite book about animals and humans

Vicki Hearne is both an animal trainer and an assistant professor of philosophy at Yale. With these two qualifications, she addresses the relationship humans have with "dumb" domestic animals, primarily dogs, horses and cats. he book is exquisite, and confirms what we already "know, that animals can think, feel, respond, and--in a sense--make decisions about how to respond to humans. She proves the intelligence of the horse trainer who admitted there were truly "crazy" horses whose indsanity justified their destrucrtion, but that if any trainer had experienced more than one such horse, the trainer should be put to sleep instead. The chapter on cats is a little fuzzy, but the rest is five-star.

Such a gift

Excellent. If you can't read japanese just Google the movie names and song titles, you can figure it out. If you're a fan of Joe and Miyazaki, forget the Japanese and focus on the universal language of music and you can't go wrong. So nice to play his music and feel the emotions he inspires. Joe is an international treasure! : )

Essential guide for design research

This book is ideal for someone starting out in design but also as a book to return back to. The book shows the depth of techniques that are required for thorough and in depth research for the world of Graphic Design. This book deconstructs the areas of design research, providing detailed chapters presented in an easy to read format using a basic layout alongside images to support the information. It is essential for all design projects to be approached with careful research and in-depth knowledge in which this book helps to inform and encourage the reader to do so. I would recommend this book to any aspiring designers.

About the Author
Jack Capon was known nationally and internationally for his practical application of Movement Education to the classroom environment. By means of his numerous workshops that he conducted throughout the world, Jack Capon has shown how teachers and others interested in Movement Education can start their own successful programs. Jack Capon was active in Movement Education from the early 1960's right on up to the mid 1990's when, by an ironic twist of fate, he was forced into early retirement by the onslaught of a rare neurological disorder called Striatonigral Degeneration. After several years of deteriorating health, Jack passed away in the summer of 1999 soon after the publication of the newest edition of his Perceptual-Motor Lesson Plans, Level-2 book. Jack Capon was not only a great Movement Educator, but a great human being as well, as witnessed by his 25 years of volunteering to direct the Special Olympics Program for his local town of Alameda, California. Although Jack is no longer here with his energy and enthusiasm for Movement Education, his Perceptual-Motor Development Programs lives on and continues to provide valuable help in developing the movement coordination skills necessary for the healthy development of children everywhere. Jack Capon, by means of his numerous workshops that he conducted throughout the world, has shown how teachers and others interested in Movement Education can start their own successful programs. It's been told that the original founder of the nationwide and now worldwide chain of Gymboree fitness centers for kids got her inspiration and many of her ideas from observing Jack Capon's programs in action and in attending many of his early workshops. The fact that you can start a business using Jack Capon-like activities for kids is further testament to the obvious that his programs do work and give a valuable boost to the development of any child in the early childhood years.
