The scope of the book is comprehensive as it covers almost every major region of Asia. The primary goal of this volume is to provide an updated synthesis of the current state of the Asian paleoanthropological and paleoenvironmental records. Papers include detailed studies of the theoretical constructs underlying the move out of Africa, including detailed reconstructions of the paleoenvironment and possible migration routes. Other papers detail the Plio-Pleistocene archaeological and hominin fossil records of particular regions.

About the Author
Christopher Norton has spent the past eighteen years conducting paleoanthropological research in China, Korea, and Japan. Of those eighteen years, Norton has spent more than eight years actually living in those respective countries learning not only the paleoanthropology, but the cultures and languages as well. This has allowed Norton to develop a broader, regional scope for his research. This has facilitated his previous research and was the primary impetus for proposing this comprehensive synthesis of the current state of research in Asian paleoanthropology. The co-editor, David Braun, works primarily in Africa. However, we both agreed that comparative research between Africa and Asia was critical to fully comprehending both regional records. This was the primary reason why we co-organized a symposium on Asian Paleoanthropology at the AAPA meeting in March 2007, which forms the foundation for this edited volume. Most of the presentations from that conference are chapters in this book.

Pedigree is a thought provoking case study into hiring practices of what the author terms Elite Professional Services firms (EPS). From the viewpoint of someone interested in inequality, Rivera explains how choices in target campuses, interview structure (fit, polish), and choice to use revenue-generating staff to interview (vs HR) stack the deck against non traditional candidates. Alternatively, for a jobseeker, Pedigree is an amazing insight because it informs about systemic biases and specific techniques to overcome them. Despite having prepared extensively for a summer internship interview at an EPS, this guide provided much deeper understanding about the interview evaluation and hiring committee process. Finally, I was impressed with the quality of the research methodology (hands-on research, inductive coding, accounting for author's own background). I highly recommend Pedigree for people interested in equitable and effective hiring practices and MBA/law school students seeking EPS jobs.

Nothing new, but an interesting read!

I'm not sure what to make of "Pedigree"'s marketing campaign. The book certainly has received a lot of hype, most provocatively in the Economist (headline: "How to join the 1%"). I'm baffled, however, that Amazon is promoting "Pedigree" as "vocational guidance."

"Pedigree" is not a "how-to" guide for joining elite firms. (Again, I'm not exactly sure why it's being promoted as such.) Rather, the book is an easy-to-read text that details/gives an overview of Rivera's research on hiring practices at a few investment banking, consulting and law firms. The insight the book offers is certainly not new for anyone familiar with these industries, but Rivera (heavily influenced by Bourdieu) offers a succinct, beautifully written sociological analysis of a world that is foreign to many -- and one that has not received much attention from academics.

I found the book a pleasure to read, though I found Rivera's analysis slightly repetitive and her presentation of nontraditional candidates who succeeded in accepting offers (chapter 10) lacking. I do look forward, however, to following her work in the future, and I am impressed by her life story (from a single-parent home in L.A. to Yale to Northwestern's Kellogg). Overall, this is a great read for scholars/professionals/laypeople who are interested in exploring the state of our "meritocracy" and are excited by the growing publication of "popular" books about American educational inequality ("Our Kids;" "Privilege;" etc).

It provides a deep phylosophical analysis of the interaction between the process and management. It's about time.

If you're on a budget and don't have $285 for the Helm shop manual, this techbook just published in 2013 might just answer some questions that a first time diesel owner like myself might like answered without paying an arm and a leg. On special for less than $18, if this book helps me make one repair, it will pay for itself. BASED on a FIRST GEN. LB7 it seems to cover the differences between the models through 2012 pretty well as the DURAMAX seems to go through a transition (for the better) every year or so. The book does have some captions for things on LLY and up model years. I didn't know this book even existed till I saw on amazon. You won't find at the partstore (@ time of the review-10/2013)

All you need for severing and repairing duramax engines. I could't find any book at my local mechanics shop so I had to get it here. Very helpful. I used it to help guide me on replacing my injectors on my 2002 truck.

Good but.....

Great source of information. However on fuel filter priming they left out the part of opening the fuel bleeder screw to vent air. The oil pressure spec is also incorrect. They have it listed as 29psi @1800rpm. The correct spec is 45psi @1800rpm. Other then these two issues its a great resource to have.

Great used bargain

Decided to go print instead of digital because I would be using it in garage to do repair work, and print makes it easier to see, read, and flip pages with dirty fingers. Bought it used from Jenson Books for a reasonable price and it arrived in new condition. What a bargain for $8, which included the shipping charge! From a quick glance through pages, I am happy with the illustrations, content and organization. Just what I needed.

Addition after use: Lots of good information but after trying to adjust rear derailluer discovered that instructions seem to assume you have rebuilt the derailluer from scratch and understand the vocabulary. Ended up taking the bike to local bike shop after I managed to make my shifting problem worse. Might not be the best guide for those who only want to do minor adjustments to maintain bike. Still, it is very detailed. Changed from 5 to 4 stars.

This guide is a great start for bicycle enthusiasts who want to learn the basic of bicycle maintenance. I have been using manuals as a mechanic (not bicycle) for the past 12 years. I have used everything from paper to digital and I will say in my professional opinion as a mechanic that the layout and details of this book are great for beginners. If you are looking for something that goes more in depth into the physics of the bike then I would say this isn't the book for you, but if you are a new bicycle enthusiast ready to learn the basic skills that you need to maintain your bike this is one of many guides that can help get you started!

Complete, well-written, easy-to-understand.

I like doing repairs and maintenance myself to save money. Now that I have a good bicycle, I want to service it myself. This repair manual is nice. It is full of good illustrations and pictures, tips, and advice. Most things are explained in an easy-to-understand manner. It's obvious that the author likes servicing bicycles, and that he wants the reader to enjoy it too. This makes the book pleasant reading material as well.

The book is also comprehensive--it explains all parts of the bike and how to repair them. After going through it all my questions were answered, and I learned a lot. If there is anything left out, I can't imagine what it would be.

My only complaint with the book is sometimes explanatory text doesn't completely match the accompanying photograph. This isn't a major concern for me, but can be mildly irritating.

For most people, this book should serve well.

I am an experienced, full time sound engineer who was looking for a book to further my knowledge and help with those little tricks and suggestions that improve my mix and the way I work.

Well boy DID I FIND THAT BOOK. It's perfect for anyone who thinks they know everything, because you're sure to find something that you didn't know.

I recently showed this book to a colleage of mine who's toured doing FOH or monitors with Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Stevie Nicks, Phil Collins, the impressive list goes on and on. Anyway... I ended up loaning him the book to head because he was so impresesed by it. He knew that Jim was good, but after a quick glance over the book, he was amazed on how educated the man is.

SERIOUSLY, it's a great book.

Great book for any audio engineer, from someone just starting in the business to the seasoned engineer. Good reading for musicians as well. The book is similar in style to Harvey Penicks Little Red Book. Short useful pieces, the kind of book you can pick up and read for 10 minutes, and you will have learned something.Good book to keep on the gig!A nice blend of humour mixed in with the knowledge and experience from the bar band circuit in Canada to touring with Van Halen,Aerosmith and many others.I really enjoyed this book!

Get this for 2017 prep (otherwise get book of PrepTests 72-81 once LSAC releases it),

As of January 2017, this is the newest LSAT PrepTest. The LSAT has evolved (like a virus) since the ancient exams from 20+ years ago in the first book of 10, so it's *really* important to get the newest exams. If you're reading this sometime between 2017-2020, you should probably complete this test as a timed test a week or two before Test Day.

This exam is not yet published in a book of 10, so it's pretty expensive....BUT IT'S WORTH IT. A small investment of about 10 bucks can pay off big time for your law school future (and potential scholarship $$$).

Once LSAC publishes this in a book of 10 exams (which they'll probably do after publishing PT81 after the June 2017 LSAT), don't get all these individual exams. That'd be a big waste of money. It'll be a MUCH better deal to get the book of 10 containing 72-81.

Other books of 10 you should probably get (72-80 are only available individually right now):

62-71
52-61

Also, you should know that LSAT exams 66-present are *the only* ones that give you 2 pages for Logic Games. Before 66, each test only gave you one page for each Logic Game and related questions. Now, they give you two. Pretty cool, right?
