Nothing new

I chose this book as my freebie from the kindle lending library this month. I'm glad I didn't waste any money on this. I was hoping to learn something new and how to actually solve my dog's fear of other dogs. He always barks and lunges at other dogs. I've been told this is common among pitbulls and pitbull mixes. I've had a trainer verify that I was correct about his aggression being fear based. I figured I would give this book a try before spending a lot of money for a trainer. I adopted my pit mix puppy at 5 months old. Just shy of the socialization window. I don't know every detail of his past, but I'm sure having two foster homes didn't help him. I think this books offers good advice on getting your dog acquainted with strangers and muzzles. It's a very quick read. It seems like my best bet is to hire a professional before my dog actually takes out his aggression on another dog. He's always on a leash, but you never know what you'll run into on walks.

Simple but Effective

Excellent book on dog aggression. The level of success really depends on the owner and it has to be established in the home. I love the fact that the Author mentions the psychological aspects of the dog. It helps to better understand what and how to deal with any aggressive behavior. Setting limits, establishing patience, exuding confidence and protection for the dog can all eliminate this issue.

Varying quality

Risk: An introduction is a book with varying quality, but suitable for a student audience. At times it presents a clear presentatio of different aspects of risk, e.g. when discussing whether risk originates from uncertainty in "when" (we know accidents happen, and what the outcome will be, but we dont know when) or in "what" (we know something is happening but dont know where it ends). At other places it is sometimes superficial and heavily framed in a Dutch background wigh little reference to the rest of the world.

DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!!

This book is informative but the killer is there is NO ANSWER KEY to any of the questions in the book!!!!! RIP OFF!!!!! I called the publisher and they told me if I was not a teacher I could not get the answer key! There is a practice test that you do get with the book but I have not looked at it. I just think it's a rip off because I read the chapters and had no problems but when I take the tests at the end of each chapter, I can't look at the answer key. I would say it refreshes you with the material but in reading it you don't know if you can pass their questions. FIND ANOTHER BOOK! RIP OFF RIP OFF ALERT....Call the publisher up yourself and ask why there is no answer key 1-888-764-7001

Lacking

This book is very informative and well structured. It is easy to pull and retain the knowledge gained from it. It has in book reviews and image guides for hands on examples. It also comes with a real MTA practice test, which you can redeem online. However as mentioned there are no answers given in the text book. Which can lead to some very stressful review writing. It does however give full access to the review answers and testing materials to teachers. This didn't help me any and anyone who was trying to avoid having to take the course will be left wanting. Overall it was a good book and most of the answers are written exactly as they are in the chapters so you can kind of cross check them. If you can find a textbook with answers included I would recommend going with that.

This book needs alot of work...

Look, I don't know who wrote this book, but I take alot of issues with it. My review here is similar to my response to another review, but I felt I needed to post my own.
CONS:
1) No Answer Key - Seriously, you might be able to find answers using Google, but they are not in this book, and Microsoft only gives them to teachers.
2) Overpriced - This book is way too expensive for its content and quality. There are better books at half the price.
3) Ambiguous questions and answers that are not always 100% referenced in the chapters, made an even larger problem by #1

PROS:
1) Decent amount of useful information, you could probably pass an MTA with this, but I wouldn't ever recommend this book to a beginner.

I guess the Pro was also a Con, oh well. I seriously hope the Windows 8 version of this book is better.

About defining and integrating PM processes - not about PM

This is not a book about project management per se, but a book about how to integrate project management processes into a large software development organization using analysis based on system dynamics.
If you are not familiar with system dynamics, it's a methodology for studying and managing complex feedback systems using time graphs and causal loops, and more formal analytical methods such as simulation and exploring alternatives in a structured manner.
This book uses those techniques to align project management processes to software development. The best way to determine if this book is right for you is to answer the following questions:
- Is your core business software development?
- Is your organization at approximately the same level as that described by SEI's CMM for level 3 or above?
- Is there a commitment to implement an integrated process that is driven by the executive or board level and does this commitment have a strong sponsor?
If the answer to at least two of the above questions is yes, then this book will be valuable. Also note that some knowledge of system dynamics is assumed. If you need to become familiar with this discipline I recommend "Business Dynamics: Systems Thinking and Modeling for a Complex World" by John D. Sterman. This book addresses system dynamics from public policy and strategy points of view, but will provide a thorough understanding of the subject.
Those who will benefit most from this book are organizations that have found existing PM methodologies to not fully meet objectives. For example, the U.S. standard based on the Project Management Institute's Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is too generic for software development, and the U.K. standard called PRINCE2 is not as well suited for product-line and software vendor approaches to development. While the PMBOK and PRINCE2 contain processes and procedures that can be used, the system dynamics approach defined in this book gives a method for selecting, evaluating and integrating the processes and procedures borrowed from these two standards. Moreover, since the CMM and related models identify key process areas for project management, they do not prescribe how they are to be implemented. This book will provide the tools and techniques for tailoring the techniques to PM process areas.
If your objective is to find a book that describes a complete project management maturity model you will be better served by "Strategic Planning for Project Management Using a Project Management Maturity Model" by Harold Kerzner; if you are looking for an off-the-shelf methodology to use with iterative processes such as the Rational Unified Process I recommend " Software Project Management: A Unified Framework" by Walker Royce. However, if you are seeking to develop and implement a best-in-class, tailored project management methodology that is seamlessly integrated into your software development processes this book will show you how to achieve that goal.
