Very Good

This book does a very good job covering a largely misunderstood and caricatured branch of the Brit Army in WW1. Its expensive and covers 1915-18. Alot of small unit as well as big battle coverage. Time is spent on leaders, organization & tactics too. Few pictures. I'm glad I bought it. Its part of a 5(?) book series on the Brit Cav 1800-1918.

Eric Bentzen, (Copenhagen Business School), is Associate Professor at Copenhagen Business School, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in managerial economics and financial econometrics. He is a member of several professional organizations. He has published in Applied Financial Economics, European Journal of Finance, Management Decision, Financial Markets and Portfolio Management and other leading academic journals. Mark Hirschey is the Anderson W. Chandler Professor of Business at the University of Kansas, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in managerial economics and finance. He also is president of the Association of Financial Economists and a member of several professional organizations. Professor Hirschey has published articles for such leading academic journals as the AMERICAN ECONOMIC REVIEW, REVIEW OF ECONOMICS AND STATISTICS, JOURNAL OF BUSINESS, JOURNAL OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC STATISTICS, JOURNAL OF FINANCE, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL ECONOMICS, and JOURNAL OF INDUSTRIAL ECONOMICS. Victoria, Australia, have chosen to put this on the final year senior school list; a decision I find odd but not terrible.

It tells a decent story of children and adults' misunderstandings during a helpfully evocative WWII London setting. There's quite a bit of "To Kill a Mockingbird" about it. There are some lovely and poignant moments as his young protagonist fumbles his way towards adolescence, and is left guessing at the actions of the women in his street: something's up but he doesn't understand what or why.

But Frayn's conceit can't continue to trade on such little capital, for the sheer fact that the readers aren't children. By the end, the narrative has lost its raison d'etre, and we are left with a supposed 'twist' that feels more like a strangle.

Spies by Michael Frayn is a jewel of a novel. Written with great precision and sensibility, it brings the reader close to the characters and makes them feel, taste, smell, what they experience. Indirectly, through the memories of the protagonist's childhood, we begin to know the adults in that child's life and the hopes, fears, and aches they have, but which the child only half understands. Gradually the reader begins to know what's what and this makes for the suspense. One is left with a feeling of nostalgia and pity, without morbidity or cynicism.

Comprehensive with sophisticated analysis

This York Notes version provides detailed, excellent summaries with engaging commentaries. It provides techniques for discussion of themes, analysis of literary techniques and excellent contextual, contemporary and historical literary background supported by very useful links. It has a useful chronology and glossary and though-provoking guide questions. I highly recommend this advanced guide for both senior secondary and tertiary students.

good investment

This is the book I used to prepare for the CNRN. I bought it on the kindle and then was able to have it on my iPad at home and my iPhone when I was away from home and wanted to study. There are great pictorials and charts, bookmark and highlight options with the kindle version, and very good clinical pearls noted in each chapter. I used a wide variety of study aids throughout the time I spent studying for the exam, but this was my go-to. (And I just passed my CNRN exam yesterday!)

Excellent resource

I have been teaching neuroscience nursing classes for years. I have two previous editions of this text. It is an excellent, comprehensive resource. I was especially excited to receive this new edition and find that the illustrations and charts/tables are in color! The book is very helpful to nurses working in neuro patient care areas and to any of those nurses who are preparing for the neuroscience nursing certification exam.

About the Author

Elizabeth D. Hutchison, MSW, PhD, received her MSW from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis and her PhD from the University at Albany, State University of New York. She was on the faculty in the Social Work Department at Elms College from 1980 to 1987, and served as chair of the department from 1982 to 1987. She was on the faculty in the School of Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1987 to 2009, where she taught courses in human behavior and the social environment, social work and social justice, and child and family policy; she also served as field practicum liaison. She has been a social worker in health, mental health, aging, and child and family welfare settings. She is committed to providing social workers with comprehensive, current, and useful frameworks for thinking about human behavior. Her other research interests focus on child and family welfare. She currently lives in Rancho Mirage, California where she is active in environmental justice issues facing farm workers in East Coachella Valley.

This is a great book focusing on the human experience from birth to late adult hood. This book really helped me in my generalist social work class and I learned a ton about humans and life itself! I recommend reading this book if you are interesting in the human race and what makes us all tick! Very interesting read!
